Fire crews were called to the incident in the Devon town just before midday on Saturday. The fire that engulfed the 85ft motorboat sent thick plumes of black smoke into the air.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services said they had five five engines at the scene.
In a tweet at 12.45pm, the fire service said: “We currently have 5 fire appliances at #Torquay Marina fighting a fire on an 85ft private vessel.
“Please stay clear of the area.”
A spokesperson said in a statement earlier Saturday: “An 85ft motorboat on fire. Firefighters called at 11:57am.
“Three fire engines on the scene. In liaison with the harbor master’s office.”
An eyewitness described hearing “explosions” when the fire broke out.
They told Devon Live: “It started 15 minutes ago along the pontoon.
“There were explosions.
“The ropes burned and he drifted into the pier.
“Firefighters took carts and pumps along the pontoons but the water did not reach.
“Some people are stuck at the other end of the pier and can’t get back.
“Firefighters run along the pier. Still huge flames.”
People took to Twitter to share photos of the fire.
Twitter user Cat Johns wrote: “A yacht is on fire near Torquay Marina, it’s like a ball of fire!”
Another, Cat Johns, shared a burst of thick smoke rising from the boat.
They said, “Fire Torquay Harbour. Hopefully no injuries.”
Another Twitter user with the handle @JohnTho77244494 posted: “Big fire in Torquay Harbour!
