Letitia Dean wins British Soap Awards special recognition trophy and shares tragic news in speech UK News

Letitia Dean revealed sad news at the end of her acceptance speech as she won the Special Recognition Award at this year’s British Soap Awards.

EastEnders icon Letitia, who played the much-loved character Sharon for nearly 40 years, received a rousing welcome from her peers at London’s Hackney Empire and her name was called as the winner of the coveted. After her EastEnders co-stars Lacey Turner and Gillian Wright were among the other winners of the British Soap Awards on the evening, Letitia received her award from her former on-screen mother, Anita Dobson.

Before a montage of Letitia’s best bits hit the screen, Anita spoke of the great support Letitia gave her on her first day of filming, in front of many of her current Albert Square co-stars like Kellie Bright, Gillian Taylforth and Steve McFadden. paid homage to him.

Letitia was embroiled in huge storylines during her time on EastEnders, most famously ‘Sharongate’, when she cheated on her husband Grant Mitchell with his brother Phil.

Accepting her award, Letitia paid tribute to the cast and crew she had worked with on the BBC soap opera before sharing some tragic personal news at the end of her speech. She said: ‘I lost my dad a week ago so this is for my dad, hope he’s proud’ as the audience cheered.

Letitia added, “And for my darling mum and I hope you enjoy your fish and chips,” before finishing, “But seriously, thanks guys, I’m not very good at this public speaking, but I love you all and thank you so much for the way you love me.”
