Eskuta KS-450 Electric Scooter Review | Coach Car News

The thumb throttle lacks a bit of feel, which makes it harder to judge how much pressure is needed to ride at lower speeds, versus high speeds. Sure, if you press hard you’ll accelerate and maintain top speed, but at lower speeds it can be difficult to find the sweet spot if you try to hold the throttle down while turning.

In beginner mode this is less of a problem, but in normal and sport mode it made the KS-450 less controllable when cornering in tight spaces, as pressing the throttle can cause the scooter to tip forward. The front-wheel-drive layout and the considerable torque sent to the front wheel in Sport mode may contribute to this.

Despite this setback, the KS-450 is fun to drive. Normal mode offers excellent balance and gives you a lot of confidence while Sport offers a little more zest for life.

Cruise mode certainly takes some getting used to. Sometimes you can find yourself thundering near 15.5mph and cruising mode kicking in, which can be a bit unnerving. Luckily, it’s easy to get out, which is done by using the brake or pressing the accelerator again.

Is there anything I should consider before buying an Eskuta?

Electric scooters are currently illegal to use on public roads and sidewalks, limiting you to use on private land only. The government has revealed plans to legalize electric scooters, but the devices are unlikely to be able to be used on public roads until next year.

While the KS-450 is designed to be folded and carried, even the lightweight design is still quite heavy: you wouldn’t want to lug it around for long. Sure, it’s a cinch to load into the trunk of a car, but you wouldn’t want to carry it around more than necessary.

On that note, the folding mechanism is very sturdy, giving you absolute confidence that the KS-450 won’t fall apart spontaneously while driving down a (private) road at 10 mph. You simply detach the handlebar from the rear brake, then with a clip the handlebar snaps into place. Easy.
