Latest M1 traffic: Three lanes closed after crash – drivers stuck in hour-long queues | United Kingdom | New UK News

Three out of four lanes were closed on the southbound M1 between Junction 17 and Junction 16 near Daventry due to the accident. Drivers were stuck in more than an hour of queuing as emergency services rushed to the scene.

All lanes had reopened after 7:30 p.m., but there were still four miles of crawling traffic.

National Highways tweeted: “#M1 southbound between J17 and J16 near #Daventry #Northampton.

“All lanes are now open, following a previous collision.

“Delays have eased, now 20 minutes above normal.

“Four miles of slow traffic remain on the approach.”

In a 6:30 p.m. update, National Highways said there were hour-long delays with nearly six miles of traffic jams.

He tweeted: “Three lanes (of four) are closed on the southbound M1 J17-J16, near Daventry, Northamptonshire, due to a collision.

“As a result, there are delays of more than 60 minutes above normal – with nearly six miles of congestion on approach.

“Emergency services – including a paramedic and fire/rescue team are present.

“We are working hard to reopen other routes as soon as it is safe to do so.”

In its first update just after 5:30 p.m., National Highways said almost four miles of traffic had already accumulated.

He tweeted: “#M1 southbound between J17 and J16 near #Daventry #Northampton.

“Three lanes (out of four lanes) are closed due to a collision.

“Delaying construction – nearly four miles of congestion approaching. Updates to follow soon.”

Long lines of traffic could be seen on the freeway in a photo taken by a traffic camera.
