Cauley Woodrow: Luton Town sign Barnsley captain UK News

The 27-year-old forward joined the Reds initially on loan in the 2018/19 season and scored 19 goals as they were automatically promoted from League One.

Further double-digit runs followed in the following two campaigns as Woodrow helped Barnsley survive the Championship on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign and reach the play-offs the following year.

But he spent five months on the sidelines injured last season and managed just four goals in 28 appearances as Barnsley were relegated.

“There have been ups and downs but this football club, this fan base, these players and this staff will be in my heart forever,” he said after his departure was confirmed.

“I cannot thank everyone enough for their efforts and support over the years and I have loved every minute I have played for Barnsley.

“Promotion, survival on the last day, Championship Play-Offs and the tough relegation season we had last year, I feel like I’ve been through it all with you. This football club belongs to the Championship and I am sure the time will return soon.

“For me, it’s time to move on, but representing and leading this football club was an honor. Thank you all and I’ll see you again soon.”

Barnsley’s new chairman Neerav Parekh has admitted that several of the club’s senior players will have to be sold this summer to make up for a drop in income of up to £8million following relegation.
