I tried Brighton Greek restaurant Olive Grove and it was a treat Brighton News

Few places allow you to have variety for a wallet-friendly price but the meze-style plates offer just that.

If you are looking for a social dinner with friends and family or an intimate meal in a cosy restaurant this might just be the place for you.

Olive Grove, which is tucked away off Meeting House Lane, Brighton, offers a number of reasonably sized sharing plates for groups to enjoy together. That is exactly what we did and each dish was as good as the last.

We started with the baked goat’s cheese between the two of us. Tangy, creamy cheese paired well with the caramelised onion base and sweet fig conserve. A helpful tip – we enjoyed this even more with some pitta breads on the side.

Next up we had “papas bravas” – a Greek spin on a Spanish classic. The small chunks of fried potato had a satisfying, crunchy exterior but were soft on the inside. The spicy tomato sauce cut through as a nice accompaniment while the aioli on top also proved a delicious, cooling counterpart.

Olive Grove’s menu is predominantly vegetarian and we continued to enjoy ourselves with the “kolokithokeftedes”, a courgette and feta dumpling served with tzatziki. Although a bit doughy at times the flavour was second to none – the deep-fried delicacy felt like a moreish yet healthy treat.

Finally, we came to the halloumi, a staple dish on any Greek menu. What really elevated this dish was a sweet, peppery salsa which brought the dish together nicely with a squeeze of lemon.

Service was attentive and I never felt forgotten even when the evening picked up – an important element to any good restaurant visit.

The restaurant also had fantastic variety on the drinks menu whether you’re doing Dry January as we were or not.

Overall, Olive Grove’s menu was perfect for a social occasion and allows you to sample a whole variety of dishes. By having a little bit of everything you really get to experience what the kitchen has to offer. This is a restaurant I would thoroughly recommend.
