A BREWING company has launched a new beer in stores across Sussex to help the homeless.
Big Hug Brewing’s new beer, Pave The Way Pale Ale, was developed as part of its support to charity partner Only A Pavement Away (OAPA). The charity helps people experiencing homelessness, such as vulnerable veterans, and helps ex-offenders find jobs.
The beer is stocked alongside other Big Hug Brewing products, such as their Juicy Pale and White IPA beers, at 29 Sussex Co-ops, including Brighton and Hove. Other places where people can buy beer are unlicensed, including Southover Wines in Brighton, Wine Barrell in Hove and Palate in Shoreham.
A portion of the sales will go to OAPA. Big Hug Brewing hopes to raise £ 5,000 for the charity, with 10p from each sale of cans going to OAPA. The funds will be used for the Hospitality Against Homelessness charity campaign.
Greg Mangham, co-founder of the charity, said: “It’s a fantastic initiative, and it’s exciting to see Pave the Way now on the shelves.”
“Our goal for 2021 is to place another 250 vulnerable people who have experienced homelessness, who have experienced or been at risk of homelessness, in long-term stable employment in the hospitality industry. Working with Big Hug Brewing will really help us make a difference.
Money from Pave The Way sales will go to Only a Pavement away.
This isn’t the first time Matt Williams, 43, founder of Big Hug Brewing, has launched an initiative like this. Three years ago, Williams started the “Hugs4Snugs” initiative, but he is excited about the new beer and its help.
Williams, who lives in Brighton, said: “The funds raised will help provide essential financial support to help those benefiting from OAPA’s employment program pay for rent, travel and essential living expenses while on the job. transition to an independent life. ”

Big Hug Brewing works with select brewing partners to help them produce their beers, rather than having their own brewery. The new beer, Pave The Way Pale Ale, has an alcohol content of 4.6% and is available in 330ml cans. The can features an illustration of an OAPA program member in a slight superhero position empowered by his new job and the opportunities created by OAPA.
