of Maurizio Bertera

It is the dawn of a new story for Hyundai. With the Ioniq 5, a compact crossover, the Korean manufacturer not only inaugurates a new generation of electric cars, built on the basis of the new modular platform for battery-powered cars called E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), which will be shared between small models and mediums. But it also creates an independent brand within the group that has great ambitions. And surprisingly, the future draws inspiration, at least on a stylistic level. from the past since the Ioniq 5 does not follow the design of the current Hyundai production but made up of clean, decisive lines, with clear references to the simplicity of the features of the Hyundai 45 prototype, exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2019. Which in turn recalled the smooth surfaces of the 1974 Pony Coup concept car, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.
