Legal Techs: This is how cumbersome consumer protection is in Germany – digital

If you have trouble with the airline or pay too much rent, legal tech companies offer quick help – for a commission. But should the state leave consumer protection to commercial services?

There is a list from Stiftung Warentest, which is called “Where the rental price brake has taken effect”. It lists in detail in which cities action was taken against which landlords due to the rent brake. What percentage of the rent was too high, how much the tenant is now saving and who has enforced the claims – mostly against large housing groups – through a settlement or a judgment. The rent brake regulates that in designated “areas with tight housing markets” the principle applies that landlords may add a maximum of ten percent to the local comparable rent when new tenants move in.
