The last episode of Course of action revealed the historic crime – and details of how the police handled it – which journalist Gail Vella was investigating before being shot.

Vella’s murder, or the lack of a suspect for it, is the main storyline in this season of the hit crime drama – and it looks like solving this crime could bring AC-12 closer to answering the bigger question. of the senior officer (or officers) controlling a network of corrupt brass and criminals.

After episode four, fans were left on a massive cliffhanger following a tense ambush and shootout, and the big reveal that DSI Jo Davidson (Kelly MacDonald) was linked to someone whose DNA was stored in the police database.

In episode five, writer Jed Mercurio once again raised the stakes, closing the series with DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) taking on OCG mole PC villain Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper) – shots fired exploding as this famous musical theme kicked in and the credits rolled.

But in addition to the dramatic ending sequence, this final episode was about digging into the murder of Vella (Andi Osho) – and finding out why some police officers may have benefited from it.

While the series is clearly fictional, Mercurio drew inspiration from the past from actual events, and this series doesn’t appear to be any different.
