Amazon opens its first hairdressing salon in London UK News

Amazon has opened its first hair salon in the UK.

The bricks and mortar ‘experiential’ venue is launched at Spitalfields in London, on Brushfield Street, as a showcase for new products and the latest technology in the industry.

This includes augmented reality hair consultations to virtually test a new hair color, as well as point-and-learn technology where customers can point to a product of interest, and more information about that will appear at a screen.

People will also be able to order products directly from Amazon by scanning the QR codes displayed along the shelves.

Spread over two floors and occupying over 1,500 square feet, Amazon Salon will initially be available only to Amazon staff, but will take bookings from the general public “in the coming weeks.”

Amazon said there were “no current plans” to expand the concept to other locations.

John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager at Amazon, said: “We designed this show for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the business.

“We want this unique place to bring us a little closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with industry and test new technologies.”

A full range of hairdressing services for adults and children will be available, including cut and blow dry, full head locks, balayage, texturing treatments and braids.

Elena Lavagni, owner of London-based Neville Hair & Beauty, will lead the concept.

“I am delighted to be a part of this project – the salon combines classic hairdressing services with technology to provide a completely unique experience for clients,” she said.

“Our creative team of stylists, whose flair for hair is as intrinsic as their love for technology, will put the customer at the heart of everything they do.

“I am proud to use our 40 years of industry experience to help bring this show to life.”

Earlier this year, Amazon launched new convenience stores in the UK.

Amazon Fresh is expanding further in London, with the opening of its last “cashless” grocery store in White City, he saw the light of day.

The branch opening on April 15 means tech giant Amazon will now have three convenience stores offering “ walking errands ” in the UK.

Customers use the Amazon app to get in and can put their phones away and buy whatever they need, bagging items as they go. Once completed, they can leave without using a cash register and are automatically billed upon departure.

The final store, near the White City subway station, is 2,500 square feet in the “front of house” portion of the site.

Amazon Fresh opened its first store outside the United States in Ealing in March and has since welcomed customers to another branch on Wembley Park Boulevard.
