European Super League: Boris Johnson equates a planned football competition with a “cartel” | UK News

Boris Johnson described the planned European Super League as a “kind of cartel”.

Speaking at a Downing Street press briefing on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said: ‘How can it be fair to have a situation where you are creating some sort of cartel that is preventing clubs from playing against each other, from playing properly against each other, with all the hope? and excitement that gives fans across the country?

“Football was invented in this country, these clubs, these names, come from famous cities in our country.

“I don’t think it’s fair that they are somehow dislocated from their hometown and hometown and turned into international brands and products without any reference to the fans who have loved them all their lives,” did he declare.

He again declined to rule out “legislative action,” but did not say what it might be.
