Marcus Rashford aims to kickstart food poverty as he and top chef Tom Kerridge team up for cooking tutorials on Instagram | UK News

Memories of childhood hunger inspired Marcus Rashford’s latest campaign to end food poverty, the footballer said.

Manchester United striker, who last year forced ministers to extend free school meals during school holidays, recorded a series of cooking videos with Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge.

Full Time: Get Cooking With Marcus And Tom, will be posted weekly on Instagram for the next 52 weeks starting Sunday.

They feature recipes that include Rashford’s childhood favorite fish pie, Mexican chicken, and spaghetti bolognese, along with lighter fare like oats and overnight sandwiches.

The couple both grew up in low-income single-parent households and said it inspired them to join forces.

Rashford, 23, said: “Is it fair if people are hungry? No they are not. It is unfair if someone falls asleep without eating.

“I want this to come to a point where, in the worst case scenario, everyone has to eat at least three meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, that’s my goal.”

Recalling how hungry he was as a child, Rashford added: “I remember sometimes in school I would fall asleep – I just didn’t eat, I wasn’t awake, so I literally fell asleep. .

“So I can see how that affects their ability to learn and focus in class.

“Some of these kids might dream of being a scientist, but imagine if they’re in science class, but they’re always tired – I don’t want that to happen.”

He said the full-time campaign would also try to allay people’s fears about cooking and end the kind of “embarrassment” his mother, Mélanie, felt when using food banks.
