A mysterious tree feller chainsaws trees under cover of darkness.

No one knows why, but more than 50 trees were felled and simply strewn on the ground at various locations around the small Surrey town of Weybridge in the Borough of Elmbridge.

Residents have formed a Facebook action group called the Elmbridge Tree Patrol to try to stop the daring logger, whom they accuse of “senseless vandalism.”

It now has over 1,000 members.

But, despite night patrols, trawling hours of CCTV footage, calls for doorbell camera videos, and even the use of license plate recognition technology, the police are no more. close to identify the author (s).

The feller even cut down memorial trees, leaving families devastated.

Resident Tony Callaghan told Sky News: “It doesn’t seem like anything more than mean. There doesn’t seem to be any other reason for it.”

He said the chain sawing had been going on for at least a month and that around 50 trees had been destroyed.

“It’s such a terrible thing and no one knows why it happens – but the biggest guess has been how they do it.”

He said a number of conspiracy theories had been developed on the type of chainsaw used.

“Some say it must be a battery saw because gasoline-powered ones make so much noise,” he said. “Other people say they saw a red car nearby, others say they may be using a moped to get away.

“One of the recent trees had a bouquet on it and was a memorial to someone’s mother – it’s really sad.”
