Mill Hill’s Rehema Muthamia reaches Miss England final UK News

A woman from Mill Hill who won first prize in a beauty pageant used her platform to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Rehema Muthamia, herself a victim of domestic violence, earned a spot in the Miss England final after winning the Miss All African Colors category earlier this year.

The 25-year-old has chosen to fundraise for Women’s Aid and hopes other female victims can relate to her.

She said: “I thought I could use the platform to reach out to women I know or those who identify with me and let them know that you can experience it while walking out on the other side. and prospering. ”

Rehema is raising funds by walking 37 km for seven days around London, starting April 21, to raise awareness in the grassroots federation.

The finalist has already raised £ 260 for Women’s Aid in the Miss All African Colors round.

Graduating in September 2020 from the University of Sussex with an integrated master’s degree in genetics, Rehema won the Miss All African Colors round in February this year.

She said: “I was always interested in the glitz and glamor of beauty pageants growing up, but I never saw myself represented, there aren’t many women of color in the competition.”

The category was created to increase the representation of ethnic minority women in the competition and gave her a place in the Miss England final.

Rehema continued, “The response has been amazing, I’m the first winner in this particular heat, so I feel thrilled, the whole experience has been very surreal.”

The Miss England final takes place on June 24 at the Coventry Conference and Events Center.

The Heart of England Conference Center owner Stephen Hammon said: “I am really delighted to be the venue for the 2021 Miss England final.

“We are dedicated and passionate about events and go out of our way to add that pinch of magic and that extra ‘wow’ factor to an already amazing event.”

The main Miss England 2021 winner will be invited to represent England at the 70th Miss World final which is currently scheduled in Puerto Rico, South America.
