The Steelers had news of mixed injuries before the showdown, the positive feeling first-choice goalkeeper John Muse was enjoying was available for the first time since he was injured in the Nottingham Panthers opening night clash, tempered by the announcement that the British international striker Liam Kirk wouldn’t. It will not be available due to a back injury.

The Steelers fell behind at 8.04 when Maxime Fortier poked John Muse on the legs, but they were level before the end of the first when Sam Jones took his time shooting Sean Bonar.

However, the two-goal lead was quickly cut in half, this time Jacob Lundell Noer reacted faster to return a rebound through Muse at 50.40.

Later, Steelers head coach Aaron Fox admitted that his players hadn’t done their best, but was happy to take advantage of any kind of advantage in the second leg.

“There were a lot of discs bouncing all over the place,” Fox said. “I didn’t feel like we were playing our top 60s, we delivered too many discs in the neutral zone, we gave them a couple of counter opportunities that we probably won’t have to give up.

“But overall, our guys fought, we competed, we hit the net five times and we will take the goal advantage until Thursday. As long as you can get an advantage in this global format, we will take it.”
