Street fight leaves man seriously injured in High Street, Selsey Brighton News

An investigation was opened after an “alarming” street brawl left a man seriously injured.

Police call witnesses after an altercation between two men in High Street, Selsey, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

A 27-year-old man was seriously injured and had to be hospitalized.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man suspected of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and he was released on bail, under certain conditions, while investigations continue.

Officers said the victim and the suspect knew each other.

District Commander, Chief Inspector Jon Carter said: “I know this incident will have been alarming to anyone who saw it.

“We do not believe this poses a permanent risk to the community as a whole and we will conduct a rigorous investigation into this incident.

“Sussex Police are committed to catching criminals, protecting our communities and providing great service.

“We had already stepped up proactive police patrols in Selsey before this incident, but we really need the support of the local community to tell us what’s going on.

“I want to thank the people who reported the matter to the police, as well as those who are working with investigators to help us understand what happened.

“If anyone has or is aware of any private footage of the incident, please help us by making it available to investigators.”
