Ed Sheeran: Longtime Ipswich Town fan closes deal to sponsor club jerseys next season | Ents & Arts News

Ed Sheeran will be the new shirt sponsor of the Ipswich Town football team next season.

Sheeran, who lives in Suffolk and supports League One Club, has signed a one-year contract to sponsor the men’s and women’s first team jerseys for the 2021/22 season.

The logo on the front of the shirts will include the titles of Sheeran’s first three albums, +, x and ÷, as well as a minus and equal symbol, above the word “tour”.

“The soccer club is a big part of the local community and it’s my way of showing my support,” Sheeran said.

“I have always enjoyed my trips to Portman Road and look forward to going back as soon as fans are allowed to enter the stadiums again.

“With the arrival of new US owners, there will certainly be some exciting times ahead for Ipswich fans, myself included.”

Asked about the meaning of the logo on the front of the shirt, he added: “Everything will be revealed in time”.

Club Sales Manager Rosie Richardson said: “We are obviously delighted that Ed has agreed to become our shirt sponsor next season.

“I have worked with Ed and his management team on various initiatives over the years and have hosted Ed and his guests at Portman Road for many games.

“He has shown his support for his hometown in many ways and this is another example of that.

“We can’t wait to see Ed – and all the other supporters – back at Portman Road next season.”

In 2019, Sheeran wrapped up his hometown Divide tour in front of 160,000 people for four nights at Chantry Park.
