Somerset policeman caught drunk by his own colleagues Bath City News

An Avon and Somerset police officer was banned from driving for 17 months after being pulled over by colleagues while driving over the limit.

PC James Hayward, 20, of Kingston St Mary, pleaded guilty to driving a private vehicle on March 12 when he was over the legal alcohol limit.

He was stopped by officers near Taunton and a roadside breathalyzer revealed he was over the limit.

Hayward was sentenced to a 17-month driving ban, a fine of £ 197 and a fine of £ 85 and a victim fine surcharge of £ 34 at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 4 May.

An Avon and Somerset Police statement said: “The conduct proceedings against PC Hayward are progressing.

“A hearing on whether his actions constitute serious misconduct is to be heard on Wednesday May 12”.
