COVID-19: What can you do from May 17 when restrictions are relaxed in England? | UK News

Boris Johnson has revealed which COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted on May 17 in England.

The Prime Minister said data continued to show the UK was making good progress against the virus and the country had passed all four tests to further ease restrictions.

Ministers examine whether vaccine rollout continues successfully, vaccines reduce hospital admissions and deaths, infection rates are unlikely to increase hospital admissions, and risks are not fundamentally changed by worrying variants.

As of May 17, here are the new rules:

• People can meet outdoors in groups of no more than 30 people

• Indoors, groups of six or a larger group of two households can meet.

• Hospitality can open indoors – but diners and drinkers should remain seated

• Indoor entertainment may open, including cinemas, museums and children’s play areas

• Theaters, concert halls, conference centers and sports stadiums may reopen – with capacity limits

• Large indoor performances and sporting events with a capacity of 1000 people will be allowed.

• Large outdoor shows and sporting events will have a maximum capacity of 4000 people or should be only half full, whichever is lower.

• Larger sports stadiums will be able to accommodate 10,000 people or may only be quarter-full, whichever is lower.

• Tests will be used to support these openings

• Organized sport and exercise classes for adults can resume indoors

• saunas and hammams can open

• Travel restrictions are lifted – but people only have to travel to countries on the green list, or amber if they really have to.

• Hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts can reopen completely

• Stays can take place in groups of up to six people or two households.

• Weddings, receptions and other life events can take place with up to 30 people, but no guest can dance

• Funerals can be held with the number of people allowed safely in that specific location
