Huge sinkhole appears as busy A-road closed for ‘urgent’ repairs Bath City News

A huge sinkhole has appeared on a busy Dorset road.

The A35 was closed near Dorchester for “urgent” repairs after the massive hole appeared today (May 11).

The road will remain closed between Troytown and Stinsford overnight and potentially in the morning, Highways England confirmed.

The images show the sinkhole, which is about two meters wide, appeared on the road surface from the inner lane to the two-lane highway.

No injury or damage to the vehicle was sustained.

A Twitter message from Highways England read: ‘The road should remain closed overnight while the fault is secured.

“Our engineers are being assembled to do the repair urgently.

“Thank you for your patience.”

Details of the diversion

Motorists are diverted by local roads:

Exit Troytown and merge onto Yellowham Hill heading west. Travel south on Cuckoo Lane via Higher Bockhampton. Turn right on Hollow Hill Join the A35 at Stinsford.
