A group of stray oxen have taken control of an East Yorkshire town after escaping from a field – causing chaos for the cattle.
The seven young “lawn bandits” were seen munching on people’s gardens – while one looked tempted to try out a resident’s trampoline.
BBC reporter David Harrison photographed the cattle tearing up the town before they were arrested and returned home.
Posting the photos on Twitter, Mr Harrison said: “The cow chaos on Woodlands Road in Beverley this morning. At least 7 cows have managed to get lost and are now tearing up the lawns.”
He added: “They’re running out of grass on Woodlands Road so they now have a jaunt down to Atkinson Way. Less lawns, but streetlights seem popular for a good scratch.”
But the boys’ day quickly ended after being pulled over by Zowie Bell, the neatherd who tends the cattle in Beverley Westwood.
In other words, all but one.
Sharing a video of the lone group member walking the green, Mr Harrison said: “Ah, a stray cow doesn’t quite have the memo that they all left home.
“It’s the cow’s equivalent of going to the bar and back on the dance floor, with your friends nowhere to be seen.”
Beverley Pasture Masters President Allan English said: “Until the oxen calm down they tend to wander – they are like little children.”
