Four people arrested for video “showing anti-Semitic slurs shouted from a car in north London” | UK News

Four men were arrested by officers investigating a video that appeared to show anti-Semitic abuse shouted from a car in north London, Metropolitan Police said.

It comes after a the video was posted and widely shared on social media showing a group of cars decorated with the Palestinian flag arriving at the traffic lights.

As the group of cars arrive in the video, a person with a megaphone appears to be shouting insults.

The events in the images are described as having taken place in Finchley Road, north London.

The Met Police investigation of the footage comes as violence in Gaza, which saw 192 Palestinians killed, including 58 children and 34 women.

A Scotland Yard statement read: ‘Officers investigating a video which appeared to show anti-Semitic abuse shouted from a car in north London made four arrests.

“Police have received reports of people shouting anti-Semitic slurs from a car traveling in a convoy of vehicles through the St John’s Wood area on the afternoon of Sunday May 16th.

“Investigations have been carried out and officers have traced a car to the A40 at Hillingdon. The police helicopter was deployed and officers stopped the car at around 6.30 p.m.

“Four men have been arrested on suspicion of race-aggravated public order offenses. They have been taken into custody at a West London police station where they are.”

Superintendent Jo Edwards, who is in charge of the police operation, said: “This behavior was very shocking and will not be tolerated.

“I understand this would have caused considerable concern within the community and we have organized additional patrols in the St John’s Wood and Golders Green areas this evening.

Following the incident, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said high visibility police patrols would be deployed on the streets of the British capital and that “hate crimes are inexcusable and have no place in our city” .
