Co-op waste dumped in East Brighton Park Brighton News

A SUPERMARKET has launched an investigation after a large amount of its waste was dumped in a park in Brighton.

The co-op said it would speak to its contractor after dismayed residents found items, which appeared to be from its Lewes Road store in East Brighton Park.

The store’s name appeared on a cardboard box with a flytip, one of many items found by residents yesterday.

Carts, a filing cabinet and a national lottery stand were also among the “shocking” amount of materials thrown away.

A Co-op spokesperson said: “We are investigating with our contractor how the materials were disposed of and are sorry they were not properly recycled or sent for disposal.

“Immediate action has been taken for the materials to be collected.”

The Brighton Naked Bike Ride Twitter account tweeted: “Would you please cooperate with investigating and holding accountable those of your employees / contractors responsible for airlifting a massive amount of waste to East Brighton Park?

“Address labels, store signs, carts clearly indicate your Lewes Road store.

“Really shocking.”
