Tributes to former Hove MP Mike Weatherley Brighton News

TRIBUTES were paid to a former MP for Hove who died yesterday.

Mike Weatherley passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer.

He was Tory MP for Hove from 2010 to the 2015 general election.

He was unable to run for a second term in 2015 due to his battle with cancer.

Brighton and Hove Conservative President Mike Long said: “I was proud that Mike was elected during my tenure as President.

“He was a man of broad interests, tremendous intellectual capacity and hard work.

“He was a good friend of Hove and Portslade. He will be sadly missed. We all send our deepest condolences to his family.”

Mike was a chartered management accountant and expert in intellectual property.

He was appointed intellectual property advisor to the Prime Minister.

He then became Vice President and European CEO of the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation.

He was active in charitable works, raising funds by participating in long distance cycling events.

His interests included rock and heavy metal music.

Steve Bell, leader of the Conservative Advisors Group, said: “I had the honor of knowing Mike both politically and also outside of politics where our friendship began.

“He loved Hove and was very proud to represent the residents as an MP.

“He enjoyed his dream job in the city he loved until illness made him quit.”

Current Labor MP for Hove, Peter Kyle, said: ‘At the sad news of the passing of Mike Weatherley, I extend my best wishes to his friends, family and all who have worked with him while you mourn his loss and celebrate his life. .

“He served our community as an MP with a dedication and compassion for which I am very grateful.”
