Football manager Roy Hodgson joins the expert panel on the Fan-Led Sport Review.

The announcement comes after the former England boss spent his last game in charge of Crystal Palace in their game against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The government’s review was drawn up in light of the now failure European Super League, which saw six top English teams attempting to form a separatist league with six other continental clubs.

Football fans were among the fiercest critics of the plans, which have reportedly seen Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea face Europe’s top teams in a competition worth billions of dollars in extra finance.

Conservative MP Tracey Crouch will chair the review, which begins on Monday, and discuss the future of the sport with football club supporters over the coming months.

Regarding the involvement of the former England manager, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: “I am delighted that Roy Hodgson has joined our panel to help shape the future of football.

“Roy has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game, and has managed top-level teams across Europe.

“I know fans will be eager to share their perspective with him as a well-respected character in the game.”

The government is seeking specific perspectives on club ownership, governance and financial flows within the game.
