A friend commented that the only way they demarcate the days is when they switch from drinking coffee to drinking wine. As dysfunctional as it sounds, it certainly sounds like a running refrain.

Enter, then, a nice purchase that will help you change your consumption habits into something quite healthier, while bringing joy.

We first met the Velvetiser when a coworker was talking about it lyrical on our Slack work channels. We coveted it for several months, wondering if it was worth the price of a non-essential kitchen accessory. Finally, we rationalized that the money could be well spent on buying something that could bring a smile to the family. And it certainly is.

The Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser makes the best hot chocolate we’ve tasted outside of Spain (where they really know their cocoa). It can be used with any chocolate, or any chocolate powder – just add the chocolate to the machine, with whatever milk you prefer, press a button and you’re ready to go.

So what about hot chocolate? It is, we cannot overstate, aptly named – it produces a velvety drink. Regular hot chocolate is either loamy and thin, or, if made on the stove, piping hot. This, on the contrary, is perfectly incorporated, rich, delicious.

Best of all, there’s the option to create whatever you want for your hot chocolate. We made salted caramel, chili chocolate, white chocolate with cardamom. Everything is beautiful. Try hazelnut chocolate for a liquid Nutella treat.

The milk is frothy and – unlike other hot chocolate – every bite is delicious, not just the first.

Our seven-year-old is thrilled in response to that: it’s a nice way to make him a milk treat. As for adults, it has helped cut down on our coffee intake, which is pretty good for locking nerves.

The downside is that the machine will only produce one cup at a time. This is hardly a problem, but for larger households, it won’t cook a lot quickly.

We also love its appearance – copper, elegant and easily fits into our glass cabinet. No problem cleaning it either. Pleasures are rare at the moment: we highly recommend this pretty machine.
