COVID-19: Michael Gove receives coronavirus application alert after Portugal visit for Champions League final | UK News

Michael Gove received a COVID app alert less than a week after attending the Champions League final in Portugal with his son.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster had to drop a meeting with Boris Johnson and devolved leaders Thursday afternoon after receiving notification that he had come into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus in recent days.

It is believed that Mr Gove’s interaction with someone infected with the virus may have occurred when he and his Chelsea support son attended the game between Chelsea and Manchester City last weekend.

Mr Gove will be tested every day for a week rather than having to self-isolate for ten days because he is in a pilot program, reports suggest.

The Cabinet minister and his son were two of more than 12,000 football fans who traveled to Porto for the match.

Mr Gove’s wife Sarah Vine posted a photo of their son on Instagram inside the stadium.

Many fans from both clubs have since been contacted by the coronavirus app since the match, which Chelsea won 1-0.

A football fan on the same flight back to the UK as Mr Gove told Sky News he was also contacted by the tracking app and asked him to self-isolate until to Sunday June 6 – ten days after the football final.

It comes on the same day that the Department of Transportation announced Portugal will drop from the British government’s green list to the orange list, which means travelers returning from the popular vacation destination will have to self-quarantine on their return.

Former Conservative Chancellor George Osborne was also seen in the Portuguese city ahead of kick-off.
