The Holby City producer has spoken out on the show’s cancellation and has promised fans the long-running drama “will be strong.”
Die-hard fans of the program were devastated earlier this week when the BBC confirmed it would end after 23 years.
Saying it was with “great sadness” that Holby City was deleted, the broadcaster’s statement added: “Sometimes we have to make tough decisions to make room for new opportunities and as part of the BBC’s engagement in making more programming across the UK, we made the difficult decision to end the show in order to reshape the BBC’s drama roster to better reflect, represent and serve all regions of the country. ”

A petition set up following the announcement of its deletion has now gathered 11,000 signatures, with the person responsible urging other fans: “If, like me and my family, you care so much about this program, please share and sign this petition. ”

And now, series producer Seán Gleeson has broken his silence about the Holby City cancellation and has promised fans he will step out in style.
In a tweet posted to the show’s Twitter account Thursday, he told fans: “All of us at Holby have been overwhelmed and touched by the response to the announcement that this ongoing series will be our last…
“We want to reassure our fans, colleagues and our Holby family that we have every intention of making the next 9 months the most entertaining Holbys yet and that we come out strong!”
Fans were quick to respond, with a comment: “I still can’t accept that this is the end, what are the @BBCOne thinking they put so much trash these days and take the best, well, I think they shot themselves in the foot with that. ”
Equally angry, another wrote: “I’m really sad this is over! The series deserves so much better! I really hope there can be one last major Holby and Casualty crossover!
