Labor plans to force a parliamentary vote on the government’s “totally insufficient” remedial plan.
The opposition called the £ 1.4bn program “inadequate” – days after Sir Kevan Collins resigned, who was advising the government on how to support children affected by school closures during the pandemic.
Sir Kevan has claimed the government has not provided enough money to fund a proper plan, and Sky News understands they are asking for 10 times the money and 100 extra hours of instruction per student.

Labor is now seeking a political turnaround and hope to test the resolve of government backbenchers during an opposition House of Commons debate on Wednesday.
Kate Green, the shadow secretary of education, said she was “shocked” by the lack of content in the plan, describing it as “a betrayal of our young people”.
Ms Green said: “The resignation of Kevan Collins makes it clear that the government’s education stimulus package is totally insufficient to help every child recover from these impacts of the pandemic.”
Announcing that he was leaving the post last week, Sir Kevan said: “A half-hearted approach risks failing hundreds of thousands of students. The support the government has announced so far is nowhere near rising. ‘magnitude of the challenge and that is why I have no choice but to resign from my post. “
