A PARLIAMENTARY constituency must change its name under new proposals for city constituency boundaries.
The constituency of Hove and Portslade will be renamed Hove and Brighton West under new plans proposed by the Boundaries Commission for England.
According to the proposals, the constituency, which is currently owned by Labor MP Peter Kyle, will retain the same boundaries.
In the 2019 general election, Mr. Kyle retained his seat and won 58.3% of the vote.
The England Boundaries Commission, an independent advisory body, today released its initial proposals for the new constituency boundaries.
The number of constituencies in the South East will increase from 84 to 91, two of which will be allocated to the Isle of Wight.
Sussex will win one MP in the changes, which aim to make Parliament fairer by giving each MP a roughly similar number of votes.
The commission said it took into account local ties, geographic factors, local government boundaries and existing constituencies and minimizing disruption caused by the proposed change.
Of the 533 existing English-speaking constituencies, less than 10% will remain unchanged under the proposals.
The commission stressed that the proposals, opened for an initial eight-week public consultation period, were provisional.
He is not expected to make his final recommendations to Parliament until July 2023.
Commission Secretary Tim Bowden said: “Today’s proposals mark the first time people have seen what the new parliamentary constituency map might look like. But these are only the first thoughts of the committee.
“We want to hear from the public to make sure the new parliamentary constituency boundaries are correct. ”
The public is now able to view and provide comments on the proposed ridings as part of the consultation process.
The 2023 Parliamentary Constituency Review was officially launched in January this year.
