A man fought for his life after a serious accident near Sherborne.

Dorset Police were called in in an accident near Keepers Cottage in the Gainsborough Hill area south of Sherborne around 7.30am on Tuesday 8 June.

The collision involved a silver Toyota and a blue Subaru.

A Dorset Police statement said: “The driver of the Toyota – a man in his 50s from the Sherborne area – was seriously injured and was taken to Yeovil District Hospital.

“He was then transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he remains in critical condition.

“The driver of the Subaru – a woman in her 50s from the Bradford Abbas area – was slightly injured.

“The road was closed while emergency services responded to the incident and a site survey was carried out. It was reopened shortly before 10 a.m.”

Traffic Unit Constable Jay Griffin said: “Our hearts are with the man who was seriously injured and his family at that time.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision.

“I urge all witnesses or anyone who has captured anything of importance on the dashcam to contact us.”
