Covid-19: Surge tests in the borough of Bedford are coming to an end Bedford News

Surge testing in the Cauldwell, Kingsbrook and Queens Park areas in Bedford will end as the number of cases in those areas is now stable or declining.

In recent weeks, cutting edge tests have been carried out to identify as many positive cases as possible and break the chains of transmission.

The special mobile test units will stop tomorrow (Friday) and all residents who have not yet returned their test can do so by dropping them off at the Prebend Street or University of Bedfordshire test sites, or by posting them to a priority mailbox.

The Bedford Borough Council would like to thank the residents of these areas who accepted the offer of a free PCR test at a mobile test unit site, a collection and drop-off site or during the recent distribution. door-to-door test kits.

So far, 3,785 people have been tested in one of the council’s special mobile test units, and over 17,000 tests have been distributed as part of the surge test program.

Cllr Louise Jackson, Health and Wellness Portfolio Holder, said: “Thank you to everyone, volunteers, staff and partners who helped distribute leaflets and test kits, and thank you to all residents. who have passed a free PCR test.

“We are stopping surge testing in these areas, but COVID-19 has not gone away. Please continue to be careful.

“Wash your hands regularly, wear a face cover, keep social distance, meet outdoors if you can, and avoid crowded places.

“As the weather improves, take the opportunity to meet your friends and family outside where the fresh air can blow out all the COVID particles.

“Remember the hands-face-space-fresh air and I encourage all adults to make an appointment for the vaccine.”

Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 should self-isolate and book a test online, visit the NHS COVID-19 app or call 119.
