Coronavirus cases have increased 200% in an area of ​​Somerset in just seven days.

North Somerset saw a significant increase in coronavirus cases between June 1 and June 7 – the latest seven-day period of data available on the government website.

Bath and North East Somerset also saw a 130% increase in cases over the same seven-day period.

Daily cases recorded in Somerset for today (June 12) are up from yesterday’s figure which saw 44 positives in the county.

The last 24-hour period saw 50 new confirmed cases of covid-19 in Somerset and Bath

North Somerset saw the largest increase in daily cases among the 23 positive tests recorded.

Bath and North East Somerset followed with 18 confirmed cases, while the rest of Somerset saw only minimal increases.

Mendip and Somerset West and Taunton both recorded a single new positive test in the past 24 hours.

There have also been three new deaths recorded in Somerset in the past 24 hours, all recorded in Mendip.

This represented a quarter of all deaths in England in the past 24 hours, which has recorded 12 new deaths as a country.

All other parts of Somerset recorded no new deaths.

Vaccination

A total of 70,741,984 vaccines have been administered across the UK since the start of the pandemic.

41,291,331 were the first dose and 29,450,653 people received both injections.

In the past 24 hours, another 202,846 people received the first vaccine, while another 285,513 received the second vaccine.

Of these, 2,730 received the first jab in Somerset and 2,443 people received the second jab.
