Harry Kewell gives Barnet’s first interview UK News

Harry Kewell has expressed his desire to create a “winning environment” at Barnet following his appointment to the club.

The Australian has been installed as the new manager, with former Wealdstone boss Dean Brennan also arriving as head of football and the pair are already planning the preseason.

Kewell said creating the right environment is going to be important to the Bees’ success this season.

“We’re on the phone all the time anyway, but this is our first meeting today to set up what’s going on throughout the season,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“We are now preparing for the preseason together and obviously going through the players and having meetings.

“We are working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything goes well because a season is as good as its preseason and you have to get it right, so it’s important for us to get off on the right foot.

“We all seem to be singing on the same sheet here, which is awesome. I’m sure there are going to be some altercations between everyone, but that’s what you want, you want to create that winning environment and that’s what we’re trying to create here.

After a very difficult season in which Barnet finished at the bottom after winning just eight of 42 games, Kewell knows he has a tough job to do, but believes the recently concluded campaign was more a reflection of the effect of the Covid- 19. pandemic, rather than an indication of the club’s condition.

He hopes to bring the club back to its place.

“Last season was difficult for everyone,” he said.

“I think the performance of what Barnet went through reflected what the entire nation was going through, so hopefully we can fix that and get Barnet back to where he should be.

“But it’s great to be a part of this new kind of phase of what the owner wants to bring, with the new background elements that we have, and to have the opportunity to bring a team of that. that we think we can improve upon and get it back to where it should be.

“I like this side of the sport. A lot of people say it’s hard work and it’s hard work, but I love being involved in a club.

“The opportunity Barnet gave me to come back is something I couldn’t refuse.”
