A303 closed due to ‘serious’ truck and car crash in Somerset – latest updates Bath City News

The A303 – one of the main roads between the South West and London – remains closed this morning after a “serious” accident involving a truck and a car in Somerset.

Road and Traffic Watch Service Inrix first reported the collision, between Sparkford and Wincanton, at 11:41 p.m. last night, Wednesday, June 17.

Shortly before 2 a.m., Highways England said the three emergency services – ambulance, police and fire department – were still at the scene.

In an update at 1:05 am, Inrix said: “The A303 in both directions has been closed due to an accident, a truck and car involved and a fuel spill from the A359 (Hazelgrove roundabout, Somerset) to the B3151 (West Camel).

“The road has been closed since about 11:30 p.m.”

In a tweet at 11:29 pm, Highways England said: “The A303 is currently closed in both directions from Sparkford to Wincanton. This is due to a serious collision.

In a subsequent tweet, Highways England said the road was closed between Sparkford and Podimore.

“Avon and Somerset Police are on the scene. We’ll keep you posted when we know more.

The Traffic England website says the road is expected to remain closed until at least 3.30am.
