Huge fire breaks out in Somerset village barn Bath City News

Fire crews were dispatched to tackle a fire that broke out in a Somerset barn today (Sunday, June 20).

A total of four devices were burned on a farm in Horsington, near Wincanton, in the early hours of this morning.

Fire trucks from Wincanton and Gillingham, a water carrier from Yeovil and an incident support unit from Martock attended the blaze.

Hay bales and farm machinery were stored in the building, where a fire had broken out in one corner.

Firefighters fought the blaze with two water jets and dragging forks, but 20 hay bales were reduced to ashes before the blaze was extinguished.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service newspaper said: ‘Firefighters from Wincanton and Gillingham as well as a water carrier from Yeovil and an incident support unit from Martock have all been dispatched to report a burning barn.

“Upon arrival, the crews confirmed that this barn contained hay bales and agricultural machinery and that there was a fire in one corner. The teams extinguished the fire using 2 main jets and drag forks.

“There were about 20 bales of hay that were destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire was accidental.”
