Life satisfaction plunges among UK workers during pandemic Business News

More and more employees are neglecting their physical health because of work as daily anxieties and dissatisfaction mount, according to a report,

While the blurring of the lines between work and personal life has brought welcome flexibility to many, the “increasingly ambiguous relationship between employers and employees is a major source of unease and uncertainty,” the officials said. researchers.

The report, commissioned by Aviva, found that the number of employees who are fully satisfied with life rose from 67% in February 2020 to 57% in March of this year.

Anxiety has also increased, especially among women. The number of employees who say they feel anxious on a daily basis rose from 22% in August 2020 to 27% in March 2021. For female workers, this figure was 35%.

The report suggests that more and more employees are neglecting their physical health because they are too busy at work, rising from 53 percent to 58 percent.

Some 86 percent of workers said they now check their work emails outside of working hours.

However, more employees (61%) now agree that their employer genuinely cares about their well-being, up from 57% before the start of the pandemic.

Mike Clancy, general secretary of the Prospect union, said the research was “further proof that permanent cultivation is an important and growing problem.”

He added: “Employers need to recognize that this is a problem that will ultimately result in wasted days, decreased productivity, a demotivated workforce and burnout.

“Unions are well positioned to work with employers to put in place a right to disconnect policy that will benefit both employees and employers. “
