UK company electrifies classic Jaguar E-Type with three powertrains Car News

An Oxford-based company will electrify the classic E-Type Jaguar ahead of the car’s 60th anniversary this year.

Electrogenic, a company specializing in converting classic cars to electric power, will equip the E-Type with a choice of three powertrains to suit different driving experiences and performance levels.

Prices will start at £ 54,000 for the base Tourer conversion and rise to £ 62,000 for the mid-range Sprint, each offering 150 miles of range. Range extenders that add 50 miles are optional and customers can also opt for the £ 80,000 Grand Tourer conversion for 250 miles on a single charge.

The Tourer conversion delivers a top speed of 100 mph with the car’s stock gearbox, but with a lower curb weight than the stock for better handling.

The next-level Sprint offers near-stock curb weight, with torque of up to 346 lb-ft. Electrogenic said it “exceeded the performance figures for the E-Type initially quoted” and offered the option of upgraded brakes and suspension.

The high-end Grand Tourer conversion does away with the original gearbox and installs an upgraded electric powertrain. It delivers 402 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque and has a quick load capability.

“As with every classic that we convert to run on electricity, the E-Type presented its own unique challenges – the main one being the weight of expectations,” said Ian Newstead, co-founder of Electronic.

“The reputation of the E-Type is well known in the industry and respecting it will never be easy, but it is a wonderfully engaging car to drive. Our first E-Type conversion will be on the stand at the London Classic Car Show and we can’t wait to show it to the world, ”said Newstead.

An electrified E-Type will be presented ahead of the London Classic Car Show in July, alongside electrified Citroën DS, Land Rover Series 2, Karmann Ghia and Porsche 356.
