Aston Martin’s design director, Miles Nürnberger, left the British brand after 13 years to take a similar role at Dacia.
Nürnberger joined Aston in January 2008 as head of design, having worked for Ford’s luxury brand in the US market, Lincoln, from 2000 to 2003, then until 2007 as a senior designer for Citroën and Peugeot. .
During his time at Gaydon, he was primarily interested in exterior styling, with recent work including the company’s iconic DBX SUV, the Valkyrie hypercar and the two Lagonda Vision EV concepts.
He was also responsible, alongside his partner Leighanne Earley, who also works in Aston Martin’s design division, for the design of the DB11 coupe. More recently he wrote the unique Victor Coupe and the Vantage-based limited-run V12 Speedster.
His departure from Aston Martin comes as the company prepares to launch a radical expansion and electrification program under the leadership of new CEO, former AMG boss Tobias Moers.
A reason for Nürnberger the switch was not officially given.
In his new role as Design Director at Dacia, the value brand owned by Renault, he will report to Group Design Director Laurens van den Acker as the company at large moves forward with the radical transformation strategy “Renaulution” detailed by new CEO Luca de Meo earlier this year.
Taking office from September 1, he will replace Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, who left the post in April this year after less than 12 months and now heads Alfa Romeo design.
Nürnberger will be tasked with adapting the rugged Bigster SUV concept, Dacia’s largest model to date, for production by 2025. Two other new models have been promised by the Romanian company, but their positioning remains secret.
