F1 2021: Turkey back on schedule to replace Singapore Car News

The Turkish Grand Prix regained a place in this year’s Formula 1 calendar, now slated for October 3 as a replacement for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Istanbul Park circuit returned to the program for the first time since 2011 last season as one of many last-minute venues added due to travel restrictions linked to the pandemic.

The event was left out of the original 2021 schedule, but at the end of April it was named as a replacement for the canceled Canadian Grand Prix, which was scheduled to take place on June 13. But when several countries imposed travel restrictions on Turkey due to the Covid-19 situation in the country, the event was replaced by a second race at the Red Bull Ring in Austria – the Styrian Grand Prix of this weekend. This will be the second year in a row that the Red Bull Ring has hosted a double event.

When Turkey takes its place in the 2021 calendar, F1 bosses have said they will look to postpone it later in the year. It has now been inserted to replace the Singapore GP, which was canceled due to travel restrictions. F1 bosses have said they are “confident” that they will be able to travel to Turkey for the race by then.

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1, said: “We have shown that we can continue to adapt, and there is a huge interest in our sport and the hope of many places to have a great prize. very good conversations with all the other promoters since the start of the year and continue to work closely with them during this time.

The change ensures that the F1 calendar remains at the 23 races originally scheduled, although doubts remain about a number of events later in the season, particularly the Japanese and Brazilian races. An additional race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas was mentioned.
