A reality TV star has announced that he has separated from his fiancée after proposing a popular dating show.
Brighton musician Daniel Wakeford melted viewers’ hearts when he got engaged to Lily Taylor in The Undateables in 2018.
But despite their romantic proposal on the Channel 4 show, the couple have now separated and called off their marriage.
Daniel broke the news in a video to his 367,000 subscribers on the TikTok social media site.
He said, “It’s Daniel Wakeford here. Look, I just want you all to know that, because me and Lily have always been romantics for three years, but we’ve decided to end our relationship together. ”
Daniel, 32, has said he’s ready to meet new people and has confirmed he’s back on the dating scene.
He added, “This summer I might flirt with you, so watch out girls.”
Daniel, who is autistic, said he is now focused on his music career, which has taken him to venues across the UK.
The star first appeared in The Undateables in 2015 and returned to the series three years later to propose to Lily.
Daniel asked her to marry him on Brighton Bandstand, his favorite place in the city.
And she said yes, to the delight of viewers.
Daniel serenaded Lily with a performance of Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You before getting down on his knees to propose.
Fans of the show took to social media to express their glee, and many say it was their best TV moment of the year.
The proposal had been in the works for some time, with Daniel spending the six months saving up to buy the “perfect” ring.
Daniel had enlisted the help of a choir for the evening and had texted Lily asking her to meet him at the bandstand.
After the song, Daniel said, “I love you, I still love you and I will love you always. Lily, my dear, will you marry me?
The couple had their first date at a cafe just over a year earlier, as part of the show.
