Passenger killed in M5 accident and driver arrested Bath City News

One person died on the M5 following an accident this morning.

Police have confirmed that one person died as a result of a single vehicle accident on the southbound M5 today (Saturday June 26).

The passenger of the black Audi died at the scene.

The driver of the car was arrested but was later taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This has occurred between junctions 24 for Bridgwater and 25 for Taunton and a closure remains in place while investigations are carried out.

A statement from Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “Police were called just after 4 am on Saturday 26 June for a single vehicle collision on the southbound M5.

“It happened between Junctions 24 for Bridgwater and 25 for Taunton.

“Unfortunately, the passenger in the black Audi died at the scene.

“The driver was arrested at the scene but was taken to hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening or life changing.

“The road is currently closed while collision investigators examine the scene and await the recovery of the vehicle. It is currently not expected to reopen until noon.

“Anyone traveling along this stretch of highway who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage that could aid the investigation is asked to call 101, citing reference 5221142767.”
