A member of the British number one team showed symptoms of Covid on Sunday morning and a subsequent PCR test returned a positive result.
Konta will now have to spend 10 days in self-isolation and will be replaced in the Wimbledon singles by lucky underdog Yafan Wang from China.
A statement from the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) read: “A member of Johanna Konta’s team developed symptoms of Covid-19 this morning and immediately isolated and performed a PCR test in accordance with Championship testing protocols.
“A positive result was obtained which resulted in the AELTC, together with Public Health England, identifying Johanna Konta as a close contact.
“According to government law, she is required to isolate herself for 10 days and is therefore withdrawn from the Championship.
“Both Johanna and her team member had tested negative in all of their previous tests conducted within the Championship protocols. Both people were informed about the positive test and the close contact classification and are now self-isolating for the next 10 days. “
