Explosions heard amid fire in Wellington Road, Portslade Brighton News

EXPLOSIONS were heard as a fire devastated an auto parts company near the waterfront.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue was called to Wellington Road, Portslade shortly before midnight last night.

The fire is said to have taken place in HCS Ramparts, behind St Peter’s Community Primary School.

Resident Alive Keogh said, “We heard a loud explosion followed by maybe ten other smaller explosions. Apparently they were exploding tires.

“My husband went to check it out because we were really worried that this would be our children’s school. Fortunately, it seems she was not affected.

“The firefighter overpowered him very quickly. By 12:30 p.m., everything was sorted out.”

Preston Circus, Hove and Roedean firefighters were called to the scene.

They used 1 in 7 foam, a hose reel, and two breathing apparatuses to extinguish a car and avoid the fire.

The incident has been turned over to Sussex Police.
