Matt Ratana: Man charged with murder of gunned down police sergeant in Croydon detention center | UK News

A man has been charged with the murder of Sergeant Matt Ratana, the Metropolitan Police officer who was shot and killed at the Croydon Detention Center last September.

Louis de Zoysa, 23, of Park Road, Banstead, Surrey, has also been charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition, Metropolitan Police said.

Mr. Ratana, 54, died of his injuries in the early hours of September 25 last year.

Since the incident, de Zoysa has remained in hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition and under police surveillance.

Scotland Yard said recent changes to his condition made the prosecution feel comfortable charging him in connection with the incident.

De Zoysa will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday via video link.

Mr. Ratana’s partner and son have been notified.
