Michael Rhodes left the Saracens UK News

Michael Rhodes has spoken of an “incredible moment” at Saracens as he prepares to leave the club.

After six years, 106 appearances, three Premiership trophies and three European Cups, the flanker is leaving the club.

Speaking in a final interview for Sarries’ website, he said he grew up as a player and is happy to play rugby with the Saracens.

“I have grown enormously since I arrived here,” he says.

“The coaches have really helped me technically in the game, and playing in a team full of world-class players naturally uplifts your game, so it’s a testament to the environment that makes you better.

“My family has been extremely happy here. Everyone comes together, and off the pitch they felt at home like me. The club attaches great importance to this stuff, so I have to thank them for that.

“I had my two boys here and they really love coming to train. They know all the guys by first name and feel like they are buddies which is amazing.

Rhodes went on to thank both the supporters and his teammates, as well as his coaches who “got the best” from him.

“It has been an incredible time,” he said. “On the pitch, the club have been very successful and I had a good time, so it was an incredible experience. I played in unforgettable places, and as far as rugby is concerned, it is without the same, so I couldn’t have asked for more.

“There are too many people to thank, but I was extremely lucky to have played with such a quality team and I am eternally grateful to be a part of it.

“The coaches played a huge role and helped me develop and get the best of myself. The medical staff allowed me to continue one way or the other and restored my body.

“I want to say a big thank you to the fans for the way they welcomed me, the away support all over Europe was amazing and recently they have stayed behind us through the tough times.

“The most important is for the players. It’s an incredible privilege to come to work every day with your friends. I am lucky to have been a part of it, it means a lot to me and my family and I will never forget them.
