Owned by Michelin-starred chef Josh Eggleton who runs the famous Pony and Trap just down the road, the Salt and Malt can be found in the village of Chew Stoke and the delicious fish and chips and other dishes are well worth the trip.

Cooked in pure rapeseed oil so no saturated fat, the fish and real potato chips are absolutely delicious and the mashed peas are straight from the garden, not just any peas, and even the vinegar is special. and of local origin.

The West Country chef is keen to make his cafe as welcoming and down to earth as possible. While the food is delicious, it’s also traditional – you can even get a breaded sausage or burger.

All of his fish come from the Cornish coast, his oysters are delicious and he is one of the strongest advocates of the field to fork concept, using fresh produce to support local farmers.

Its cafe / restaurant on the lake is casual, informal with a subtle nautical theme, you can either opt for a three course meal or a fish and chips to go, you always feel welcome.

It used to be a traditional cafe, so Josh has kept that tradition alive by serving afternoon tea with fresh scones and cakes for people coming to enjoy the lake, he also serves delicious, hearty breakfasts.

Salt & Malt is very relaxed and informal by day, then in the early evening it transforms into a romantic hideaway with stunning views of the water.
