Weather in the UK is expected to be volatile over the next few days, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected to hit some areas.

The Met Office has issued numerous yellow weather warnings, with flood alerts also in place for some of the areas expected to be affected by rain.

But where has the Met Office issued weather warnings and where are the flood warnings currently in place?

Here’s what you need to know.

What are the Met Office weather warnings in place?

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms in the center, Tayside and Fife East Midlands, London and South East England, North East England, North West England, South West Scotland, Lothian Borders, South West England, Strathclyde, Wales and Yorkshire and the Humber.

The weather alert is in place until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday (July 3).

The Met Office said: “Heavy rain and thunderstorms could disrupt Saturday.”

A yellow Met Office weather warning for rain is also in place until 9 p.m. Saturday, covering southwest England.

The weather warning said: “Heavy downpours bringing risk of flooding and disruption on Saturday afternoon and evening.”

From 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday 4th July, a yellow Met Office weather warning for thunderstorms is in place, covering Central, Tayside & Fife, East Midlands, East of England, North East England, North West England, Northern Ireland, SW Scotland , Lothian Borders, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber.

The Met Office said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to break out late Sunday morning, perhaps becoming fairly widespread by the afternoon.

“Some places will miss the worst, but where they do, 20 to 30mm of rain could fall in a short period of time, leading to surface flooding. Lightning and hail will be additional hazards.

“Showers and thunderstorms will subside only slowly through the evening and some may persist until late into the night.”

Where are there flood alerts in place?

In England, 11 flood warnings are currently in place in the following locations:

  • Bottle Brook in Derbyshire
  • Loughborough Urban Streams
  • Lower River Soar in Leicestershire
  • River Blythe in Warwickshire
  • Cole River
  • River Leen and Day Brook in Nottinghamshire
  • River Maun in Nottinghamshire
  • Réa River
  • River Stour and Smestow Brook in the Black Country and South Staffordshire
  • Tributaries of the River Trent in Nottinghamshire
  • Tame Superior

In Scotland, six flood alerts are currently in place in the following locations:

  • Central
  • Dumfries and Galloway
  • Edinburgh and Lothians
  • Fife
  • Scottish borders
  • West Central Scotland
