Bath takes first place for the best place for a backyard barbecue (but we have more sun) Brighton News

Brighton was beaten by Bath as the UK’s best city for a backyard barbecue, according to a recent report.

To coincide with National BBQ Week, Next Home and Garden analyzed a range of factors including hours of sunshine, average summer temperature, and online searches for barbecue terms.

While Brighton scored higher for having an extra hour of sunshine and a slightly warmer temperature than Bath, the city of Somerset pushed Brighton to second place due to the size of its gardens being larger than average. 204 square meters, compared to 23 on average in Brighton.

Also in the top five were Chester, Newcastle and Edinburgh, with the Scottish capital scoring high for its number of butchers and eight-hour average of sunshine.

Despite Brighton’s range of vegan and vegetarian restaurants, the city only ranked fourth among the best cities for meatless barbecue.

The city had the most search terms for meatless barbecues, but Bath again took the top spot with more than triple the number of vegan supermarkets; 10 to Brighton three.

Sadly, England fans planning a barbecue for the European Championship final on Sunday might be disappointed, with the Met Office predicting cloudy weather and a 50% chance of rain by 7pm.

A spokesperson for Next said: ‘Covid has taught us how much we love and appreciate our outdoor space and what better way to celebrate that than a British barbecue.

“With the six outside rule now lifted, we expect UK barbecues to be bigger than ever this year. ”
